Thai, Japanese, and Trippy

It has been a while since I've seen a movie something so excellent that I am inspired to say something about it. Erm, while I thought Brokeback Mountain was very good, this one was one of the stellar ones. Last Life in the Universe takes place in Thailand but has much to do with a Japanese man who is obsessed with trying to kill himself. But lest that make the movie seem too dreary--it kind of opens with a few shocking scenes as well--a budding friendship with a Thai woman changes things for these so eccentric and normal people. And it has fantastic cinematography thanks to Christopher Doyle, whose lent his talent for creating beautiful spaces to movies like Rabbit-Proof Fence and those of director Wong Kar Wai. Ah, see this movie. Go and rent. Go and borrow.
